Why Elemental Damage Matters

In Echoes of Aincrad, matching an element to an enemy's weakness grants a large bonus damage (community-reported ~+50%) — and because elemental bonuses stack multiplicatively with counter and critical multipliers, the right element can push a single hit several times past normal damage. Players who exploit weaknesses have a major edge over those who ignore them. This guide covers the affinity table, the enemy matchups on every floor, and how to build loadouts around them.

Note: The +50% figure and the formula below are community-tested and may change with patches.

The Four Elements

ElementEffective AgainstWeak AgainstSource
-------------------------------------------------
FireGolem, PlantWater, IceMage spells, fire weapon papers
IceBeast, FireFire, EarthMage spells, frost gear
LightningAquatic, FlyingEarth, FireMage spells, lightning weapons
ArcaneAll (neutral)NoneAlways safe — no bonus, no penalty
Arcane is the reliability pick: it never gets a bonus, but it never gets resisted either. If you are entering an unknown zone, an Arcane loadout is never wrong — which makes it the best choice for blind exploration and the worst choice for optimized farming.

Physical Damage Types

Elements sit on top of the physical damage system (slash, thrust, blunt). Physical types matter too:

Physical TypeBest AgainstNotes
------------------------------------
BluntGolems, armored enemiesCrystal Golems (Floor 3) are notably weak to blunt
SlashFleshy enemies, beastsThe most common weapon type
ThrustLightly armored, fast enemiesRapier specialty — pairs with parry counters
Rule: when your element is neutral, your physical type decides the matchup. A blunt Shield build on Floor 3 will outperform a neutral Fire mage on the same mobs.

The Damage Formula

From the community's confirmed testing:

Final Damage = Base × (1 + Elemental Bonus) × (1 + Counter Bonus) × (1 + Crit Damage)

SetupDamage vs Weak Enemy
-----------------------------
No bonuses1,000
Element match (+50%)1,500
Element + counter window2,250
Element + counter + crit4,500+
Practical application: save your heavy skills for counter windows on elementally weak enemies. A well-timed Arcane Blast on a weak enemy during a counter window hits for 5-6x normal damage — the multiplier stack is where the game's biggest numbers live.

Floor 7 is the trap floor: Fire elementals are reported resistant to Fire. Mages running Fireball-only rotations lose their entire kit here — switch to Ice or Arcane before the Lava Fields.

Building an Elemental Loadout

Weapon Papers

Weapon paper (elemental) is the cheapest elemental upgrade in the game: apply a paper to a weapon to add its element for a limited duration. In speed runs, pre-buffing with the highest-damage food buff + elemental weapon paper + an SP regenerator before an arena is the standard opener — all three stack.
  • Buy ahead: stock fire papers before Floor 8 (Frozen Tundra), ice papers before Floor 7 (Lava Fields).
  • Paper + element match: a paper on a weapon whose natural element matches the enemy stacks the bonus with the weapon's own affinity.

EX-Mods

The Elemental Damage Up EX-Mod (+16% elemental) is the core of elemental builds: strong on weakness, weak otherwise. Pair it with Elemental Bonus (tier 3 Mage talent, +15% damage to elemental weaknesses) for the highest-value elemental stack available to mages.

Mage Spell Selection
