Why Play Mage?

Mage is the late-game magic path — the only true ranged playstyle in Echoes of Aincrad. You attack from a distance, control the battlefield with AoE, and output the highest burst damage potential in the game. If you enjoy deleting enemy health bars before they reach you, this is your build.

Note: The Mage path unlocks in the late game. Spell names, channel times, and bonus values below are community-reported and not independently verified.

Core Mechanics

Spell Channeling

Most magic skills require a channel time (1-3 seconds). While channeling:

  • You cannot move
  • You cannot block or dodge
  • Interrupting the channel wastes the SP cost

Positioning and timing are critical. Every cast is a commitment.

Elemental Affinity

Your spells have elemental types. Matching element to enemy weakness deals +50% bonus damage:

ElementEffective AgainstWeak Against
----------------------------------------
FireGolem, PlantWater, Ice
IceBeast, FireFire, Earth
LightningAquatic, FlyingEarth, Fire
ArcaneAll (neutral)None (no bonus)

Mana Shield

A toggle skill that converts SP drain to mana absorption. While active, 40% of incoming damage is deducted from SP instead of HP. Essential for survival but dangerous if your SP runs dry mid-fight.

Best Magic Skills

SkillTypeWhen to Use
-------------------------
FireballSingle-target burstStandard damage rotation
Ice StormAoE slowFarming mob packs, crowd control
Lightning BoltFast castMobile enemies, interrupt casts

Skill Rotation

Standard Combat

Fireball → Ice Storm (if multiple enemies) → Lightning Bolt (fast filler) → repeat

Boss Damage Phase (Stunned Enemy)

Arcane Blast (max channel) → Fireball → Lightning Bolt → Ice Storm

AoE Farming

Ice Storm (slow pack) → Fireball (center) → Lightning Bolt (stragglers)

Kiting (Solo vs Fast Enemies)

Teleport (back) → Ice Storm (slow) → Lightning Bolt (while they approach) → repeat

Solo vs Partner-Assisted Performance

Solo Play

AspectRatingNotes
-----------------------
DamageS-tierHighest burst, but you need distance
SurvivabilityC-tierGlass cannon. One mistake is often fatal.
Farming SpeedS-tierAoE clears packs instantly
BossingB-tierDangerous. Requires perfect positioning.
Solo mage is high-risk, high-reward. You delete enemies before they reach you — but if they do reach you, you are in serious trouble. Best solo strategy: Keep Ice Storm between you and enemies at all times. The slow effect creates safe distance for your heavy casts.

Partner-Assisted Play

AspectRatingNotes
-----------------------
DamageS-tierSafe behind your partner, free to full-channel
SurvivabilityA-tierPartner draws aggro, you focus on DPS
UtilityA-tierAoE control, elemental coverage
BossingS-tierConsistent safe damage from range
Mage with a partner is the safest DPS role. With your partner holding aggro, you channel freely without interruption. Your damage output is unmatched because you never have to cancel a cast.

Boss Matchups

BossMage Strategy
--------------------
Violet FencerStay at max range. Teleport her AoE Slash. Ice Storm when she charges toward you.
Ark GuardianFree matchup — the beam cannot reach max range. Full-channel Arcane Blast during beam animation.
Twin WardensFocus Flames from range. Teleport the fire AoE. Keep Ice Storm on Blades if it gets close.
Corrupted Fae LordClear the dark fae adds with Ice Storm. Teleport the curse barrages in Phase 2.

Quick Tips

  • Mana Shield should always be on — there is no reason to toggle it off. It doubles your effective HP pool.
  • Do not full-channel unless safe — Arcane Blast's long channel is dangerous. Only use it when the boss is staggered or focused on your partner.
  • Teleport reportedly has a cooldown around 5 seconds — use it for big telegraphed attacks, not for repositioning slightly.
  • Learn elemental weaknesses — +50% damage is massive. Check the enemy type before engaging.
  • Range is your defense — if an enemy gets within melee range of you, you made a positioning error.
  • Ice Storm does not stack — refreshing it early wastes SP. Let it expire before recasting.
