EX-Mod Guide & Tier List — Weapon Modifiers Ranked
Master the Smithy EX-Mod system in Echoes of Aincrad. How to combine weapons, transfer EX-Mods, farm materials, craft the best modifiers, and the full S/A/B tier list ranked by build.
What Are EX-Mods?
EX-Mods are weapon modifiers that significantly enhance your combat capabilities. They are crafted, combined, and transferred at the Smithy in the Town of Beginnings.
Note on numbers: Echoes of Aincrad does not publish official modifier statistics. Effect ranges and costs below are community-reported and may vary with version. Treat exact percentages as approximate.
EX-Mod Slots
Each weapon can hold up to 4 EX-Mods. A 5th slot unlocks at 100% weapon familiarity — plan your best EX-Mod around it. Legendary weapons are reported to hold 5 slots natively.
Unlocking the Smithy
The Smithy unlocks after you reserve a room at the Inn. This happens early in the main quest — usually within the first 1–2 hours.
Core Systems
1. Improve Base Parameters
Use materials and spare weapons to boost a weapon's base stats (attack power, durability). This is the simplest upgrade path — good for early game when you lack EX-Mods.
2. Combine Weapons (EX-Mod Pooling)
Combine two weapons of the same type to pool their EX-Mods onto one weapon. The resulting weapon keeps up to 4 EX-Mods (the highest-rank ones are prioritized).
Example: Weapon A has EX-Mods [Attack +5%, HP +10]. Weapon B has EX-Mods [Crit +3%, Stamina -8%]. Combining A + B at the Smithy creates a weapon with [Attack +5%, HP +10, Crit +3%, Stamina -8%].3. EX-Mod Transfer
Move an EX-Mod from one weapon to another. This costs materials and Col (in-game currency). Use this to:
- Move a rare EX-Mod from a weak weapon to your main weapon
- Preserve EX-Mods when upgrading to a higher-rarity weapon

|---|---|---|---|

| Uncommon | 3 | Medium (+10-12%) | Medium |
| Rare | 3 | High (+15-18%) | High |
| Epic | 4 | Very High (+20%) | Very High |
| Legendary | 5 (reported) | Highest | Highest |

Slot order: Improved Critical Rate > Attack Speed Up > Reduced Stamina Cost > Improved Normal Attack.Mage (Elemental)
Slot order: Reduced Stamina Cost > Elemental Damage Up > Improved Skill Damage > Improved Normal Attack. How to Farm the Best EX-Mods
1. Weapon Combining (Cheapest): Farm weapon drops (Floor 1 goblin camps), combine same-type weapons to pool EX-Mods, keep S/A-Tier donors. Combining is cheaper than individual transfers. 2. Boss Farming (Fastest): Bosses drop higher-rarity weapons — reported progression: Violet Fencer (Uncommon), Ark Guardian (Rare), Twin Wardens (Rare), Floor 3+ (Epic). Kill → check → transfer → repeat. 3. Vendor Scouting: Some players cycle vendor inventory to find discounted weapons with good EX-Mods. Results vary by version — if the vendor does not refresh after a few attempts, wait for the natural restock timer. 4. Material Crafting (Endgame): Crafting recipes (community-reported):- Reduced Stamina Cost = Iron Ore x5 + Beast Hide x3
- Improved Critical Rate = Crystal Shard x2 + Refined Steel x1
- Counter Damage Up = Boss Essence x1 + Crystal Shard x3
- Improved Normal Attack = Iron Ore x3 + Wood Scraps x5
Material Farming
Common Materials
- Iron Ore — dropped by goblins and mined from Floor 1 caves
- Beast Hide — dropped by Dire Wolves (Forest area, Floor 1)
- Wood Scraps — from wooden crates and barrel objects
Rare Materials
- Crystal Shards — mined in the Floor 3 Crystal Caverns; also from select boss drops
- Refined Steel — Smithy crafting using Iron Ore x5
- Boss Essence — reported guaranteed drop from floor bosses
Best Farming Route (Early Game)
- Start at Floor 1 Forest checkpoint
- Clear Dire Wolf packs (Beast Hide + XP)
- Clear goblin camps (Iron Ore + weapon drops)
- Fast travel back to checkpoint
- Repeat
This loop reportedly yields enough materials for 2–3 EX-Mod upgrades per hour (community-reported).
EX-Mod Farming Priority by Progression
| Stage | Farm First | Why |
|---|---|---|
| ------- | ----------- | ----- |
| Floor 1 (Early) | Reduced Stamina Cost | Cheap, every build needs it |
| Floor 2-3 | Improved Normal Attack | Reliable DPS boost |
| Floor 4-6 | Improved Critical Rate | Unlocks DEX build potential |
| Floor 7-9 | Counter Damage Up | Important for endgame boss DPS |
| Floor 10+ | Stamina Recovery + Charge Attack | Enables heavy weapon rotations |
Common EX-Mod Mistakes
- Stacking duplicates: Same-type bonuses reportedly do not stack. The second slot is wasted.
- Over-investing in early weapons: Transfer costs for low-rarity EX-Mods are often not worth it.
- Skipping Reduced Stamina Cost: Widely considered the best EX-Mod in the game. Do not ignore it.
- Crafting common rarity: The stat difference between Common and Uncommon is reported at 40–60%. Save materials.
- Ignoring the 5th slot: Unlocked at 100% weapon familiarity. Plan your best EX-Mod around it.
Quick Tips
- Combine before transferring — pooling EX-Mods via combination is cheaper than individual transfers
- Keep a "donor" weapon — store a weapon with good EX-Mods to transfer onto future upgrades
- Don't over-invest in early weapons — you will replace them. Save rare EX-Mods for weapons you will use for 5+ hours
- Check the Smithy after every boss — bosses drop materials needed for high-tier EX-Mod crafting
